The Strengthening Families Program for parents and caregivers and their youth ages 10-14 years will be offered in Dallas Center.
This free seven-session program is aimed at building on family strengths, increasing family communication using love and limits, and helping youth navigate successfully through their teen years.
It is designed to:
- Prevent teen substance abuse and other behavior problems
- Strengthen parenting skills
- Build family strengths
Registration deadline is January 10, 2009.
Session dates are Sundays, from 5:00-7:30 p.m., Jan. 18 & 25, Feb. 8, 15 & 22, and Mar. 1 & 8, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1204 13th St, Dallas Center.
A meal is provided as well as child care. A drawing for a gift certificate to The Smokehouse Restaurant will also be held for participants.
This program is offered by Iowa State Extension Dallas County in cooperation with DC-G Schools and the Dallas Center Police Department.
Sessions will be facilitated by Julie Kopecky, Michelle Leonard and Lynette Yossi. This program is funded by the Dallas County Children's Advocacy Council and is free to participants.
