Water Treatment Plant Backwash Improvements Project (completed)

At the October 9, 2018 City Council meeting the Council passed Resolution 2018-41 – ordering construction of the Water Treatment Plant Backwash Improvements.

This project is an unfunded mandate from the DNR for a “standards” change of the iron filter backwash discharge.  The City was made aware of the need for the improvements in 2010 and then granted the permit for the improvements in 2018.

The project involves installing a low-pressure sewer along the southerly side of highway 44 along with piping to be able to pump the flow of the backwash discharge to the City’s low-pressure sewer system. Three storage tanks will also be installed to assist with slowing the release of the discharge into the low-pressure sewer system.

*This project is being funded from the City’s water fund for $161,350.00.  With the knowledge that these improvements needed to be made yet not knowing when the DNR would grant the permit for the change; the Council has been saving money and budgeting for this project for the last 9 years.
