Pet licenses are required to prevent pets from being destroyed as stray, and as a way of tracking vicious animals.

Registration

Every dog or cat shall be registered with the City Clerk prior to January 1 of each year.

Application Requirements

Proof of current vaccination against rabies; breed, sex, age, color and name of dog or cat, and address, telephone, and signature of owner.

Registration Fees

License fee is $5.00. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, the fee for each dog or cat is $20.00. A $5.00 late fee will be imposed on each dog or cat not registered by February 1 of each year.

Impoundment

Registered animals found at large are subject to a municipal infraction of $100.00 1st offense, $200.00 2nd offense, $400.00 3rd offense. Unregistered animals and registered animals found at large on more than three (3) occasions shall be seized and impounded. If an animal is registered, but does not hav the tag on, it is considered unregistered. Impounding costs are $200.00.

If your pet was picked up while running loose and was not wearing a city pet license, you must stop in City Hall to pay the impound fee and obtain a receipt before proceeding to the Animal Rescue League.

Registration Applications

Applications will be accepted after November 1 for the next calendar year. Tags will not be mailed unless $0.55 or a pre-stamped envelope is included. You can download the application form here.
