When to Call 911

When to Call 911

If you see any active or developing situation where you believe fast emergency response is needed to prevent a death, a serious bodily injury or property loss, do not hesitate to call 911.

This includes any situation involving a medical emergency, fire or smoke, vehicle accident, impaired or reckless driving or boating, highway spill, lost or unattended child, possible criminal activity, violence, abuse, animal threat, gas leak, electrical hazard, tornado activity, etc.

All 911 calls in Dallas County except for those from the City of Perry are taken by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office Communications Division.

This guarantees that if local police, fire, rescue, or EMS resources are not available for any reason, the closest available county or city units will respond quickly.

See more details of the 911 system at the Dallas County Sheriff's website.
