Dallas Center’s Downtown Streetscape + Green Corridor Master Plan (see attachment below) is an implementable and achievable vision for the Walnut Street corridor which prioritizes improvements to the corridor that promote economic development and tourism, improve civic and physical infrastructure, and inspire community connectivity via this central corridor. Centrally located for approximately nine blocks, the Walnut street corridor connects the central downtown core to many of Dallas Center’s public parks, including Mound Park, Heritage Park, and Memorial Park, as well as the major regional trail system bisecting the community, the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Downtown Streetscape and Green Corridor Master Plan is a guiding and evolving document that will provide direction to future city staff and officials, while also being flexible enough to allow for adjustments because of shifting community priorities and municipal budgetary constraints. The master plan is divided into multiple implementable phases that can be scaled to adjust for funding availability. The City and its partners will use this master plan to pursue grants and other funding opportunities to assist in funding the outlined phases and improvements. Additionally, the improvements identified in the master plan will provide additional natural and recreational amenities, commercial opportunities, pedestrian improvements, and civic spaces to encourage visitors and residents to spend time and resources downtown and within the extended Walnut Street corridor.

The City of Dallas Center sees this Downtown Streetscape + Green Corridor Master Plan as the next step in our ongoing efforts to embrace Dallas Center’s unique position to provide both the quality of life associated with smaller communities and the opportunities that can be found in the greater Des Moines area. We look forward to beginning the next steps of implementing the master plan with input and support from Dallas Center’s engaged residents and business owners.
